If I had to use something besides Eheim or Fluval, it would probably be the Hydor ones. Cheap garbage at the end of the day, especially the SunSun/AquaTops (all my clients with them have had issues and ended up replacing them sooner or later). I wish they would do something equivalent to the covers on Rio pumps. The 06 covers are better, only one clip, but you still have the one. As long as you are careful, you shouldn't have any problems, but it still isn't a bad idea to have a replacement impeller cover on hand in case you eventually break the clip. I hate messing with them, so I don't unless I have to. 405) have an achilles heal in the clips on the impeller cover. They all have great hardware (intake strainer, tank rim adapter, etc.). The FX5/FX6 is an unmatched beast and would be what I would put on your 90. They have great flow, great media capacity and arrangement, and are very reliable.

I have never once been using an Eheim and thought, "I wish Fluval had that."įluval has slowly learned through trial and error, but the end result is the best canister on the market. However, I can't stand their bright green tubing, super white lettering (we get it, you're Eheim), and their tank rim adapters are non-existent on most/all models. You just need to figure out what is right for you.įor example, what I have running on my display tank is -Īn FX5 running matrix in one basket, subrat pro in another, and two bags of purigen and dacron in the top.Īn Aqua One CF1200 running standard sponges, matrix in one basket, subrat pro in another basket, calcium carb and purigen in another. There are a million different ways of doing something, and no real right or wrong, each person has their own preference. If you want extra water flow in the tank you could get some power heads. If you want extra bio, off any of those canisters you could plumb in a fluid bed filter. 2 x Aqua One CF1200's (with Matrix as replacement media) 2 x 2200lph white guppys canisters that have UV.
